Football Fridays

In September and October, Hudsonville football players gave back to the community by volunteering in classrooms. Drew Martini, a quarterback and receiver, was our classroom volunteer and did a great job connecting with and helping our students. He joined us for the last forty-five minutes of every Friday during the regular football season and playoffs.

As a thank you from the coaching staff for hosting Drew, the students in our class received a free ticket to the game against Rockford at Eagles Stadium.

Congratulations, Hudsonville Eagles, on an amazing season…and thank you, Drew, for joining us in our classroom! Go Eagles! 🙂

Georgetown Culver’s Night

Monday, November 19 is Georgetown’s night at the Culvers on 7393 Cottonwood Dr, Jenison! A portion of all sales between 5:00 and 8:00 will go to the PTC. You can either come in and eat or go through the drive thru.

I will be among the parents and staff serving food in the restaurant and drive through from 6:00 – 6:30!

Bring your family by for dinner or get a concrete mixer and support your school! Hope to see you there! 🙂

Turkey Trot Registration

We are now offering online registration for the Turkey Trot through the community education website! This method of registration streamlines the process for you.  You will receive immediate confirmation that your payment was received and your child is ready for the race!  It also helps us out immensely by cutting down on having to collect checks and cash.

Turkey Trot details:
When:  Tuesday, October 23
Where:  Baldwin Street Middle School – Eagle Stadium
Time:  Races begin at 5:00 PM, Gates open at 4:30 PM
Entry fee:  $6.00 (includes a Turkey Trot shirt)

If online registration is not for you, no worries, you may still send the registration form with payment to your child’s school.

If you have ever signed your child up for a community ed. activity, you already have an account.  If not, one can easily be created.

Book It!

Our class is participating in the BOOK IT! program to encourage reading at home. You will be receiving a calendar at the beginning of each month, October through March. Each time your child reads at home during that time, they should mark it on their calendar (and their Reading Log for our classroom). At the end of each month they may bring their calendar back to school and receive a coupon for a FREE personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut! 🙂

We the people…

…in room 304, in order to gain a better understanding of the Constitution, shared what we thought we knew about it and then went in search of the facts.  Why did we want to learn more about this document that was signed many years ago? Yesterday, September 17, was Constitution Day.

So, we explored informational text to discover more  about it. The students did a great job of using text features to zero in on important information.

Parents, if your son or daughter has not yet shared at least 3 facts about the Constitution with you, please ask them to do so.

As they were sharing, the question was asked, “Where is the Constitution?” I told them that would be a great question to research. I’m looking forward to hearing what they discovered.
